Welcome to Brancaster Midsummer Music 2011

Welcome to Brancaster Midsummer Music 2011, our 11th successive year of music making. This year our musical journey takes us from Bach to the present day and to destinations around the world – Russia, Scandinavia, France, Cuba to mention just a few of our stopping-off points. Do join us!

As always, two of our concerts are in the fine, old, flint coastal churches in Brancaster and Thornham. Do check their website, www.saxonshorebenefice.co.uk, which has excellent histories of the churches. Our signature concert, by kind permission of Viscount and Viscountess Coke, will be held at Holkham Hall (www.holkham.co.uk). Picnics are permitted overlooking the lake.

This year we welcome The Heath Quartet to Brancaster, the Acquarelle Guitar Quartet to Thornham and the Scott Brothers Duo to Holkham Hall.

Every year we arrange a private concert at Smithdon High School for the pupils there as well as for pupils from schools throughout the area. In an informal manner, the pupils are introduced to classical music, are invited to participate and then listen to a short concert. In the afternoon, those pupils taking music as part of their GCSE or A Level work have an intensive workshop with the musicians.

This year we thrust The Classic Buskers into the lions’ den. They feature Michael Copley on over 40 woodwind instruments and Ian Moore on accordion. Read more about it on the School Concert page as well as reviews of the 2010 concert given by O Duo.
